Home & Away: Monterey Bay Aquarium

Last week, Nicholas and I went on a week long getaway to sunny California. After visiting sister Monika and Ben for a few days, we packed up our rented Fiat and drove north towards Monterey, CA. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has been on my to-do list for quite some time, and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. Go ahead and gawk at some of the jellyfish and sea horses we saw. They were breathtaking!

Wasn't that awesome? I thought so too. We also saw some epic battles between male elephant seals which are called bulls (I looked it up...you're welcome). You can stop along the central CA coast at a turnoff appropriately labeled "Elephant Seal Viewing Area." They weren't kidding--there were seals for days. The folks at the Friends of the Elephant Seals have some handy informational plaques and brochures for you to take. It was breeding season so all the bulls were fighting for their harem of seals. The noises and smells coming from this beach were something else.

These are two bulls sparing.

BONUS BIT! The Monterey Bay Aquarium offers free downloadable wallpaper for your computer. This month it's the Crown Jellyfish. I know what I'm going to go do, and you should too!
